ROCKY RIVER CHAMBER MUSIC SOCIETY
In 1958, six professional musicians on the west side of Cleveland formed a chamber music society with the goal of bringing the best of chamber music repertoire to their communities. They proposed to present a series of concerts each year, free to the public, emphasizing professional standards of performance and a great diversity in programming. Thus, the non-profit corporation known as the Rocky River Chamber Music Society was established.
A ten-member board of trustees, made up of both professional musicians and non-performing lovers of music, has assumed administration of the concerts. The carefully planned and well-balanced concert series is announced in late spring. Because the series enjoys strong support from west shore residents, it is self-sustaining. There are no benefits, no ticket sales and no "angel" benefactors. Residents who have requested mailings regarding the concerts are invited to make financial contributions in the spring and fall.
Artists frequently comment about the warmth and involvement of audiences. The audiences and those responsible for production of the series share the feeling that they are involved in presenting a musical experience that has a positive impact on the cultural life of the community.
Concerts are held at the West Shore Unitarian Universalistic Church, 20401 Hilliard Boulevard, Rocky River, at 8:00 P.M. on selected Monday evenings. For information, call 440 333-2255.
