Fire Division

Rocky River's Fire Division consists of 29 sworn Officers including a Chief, a Fire Prevention Officer, and three nine-member shifts comprised of a Captain, 2 Lieutenants, and 6 Firefighters. All members of the Fire Division are certified Paramedics. The Fire Department maintains two fully-equipped rescue squads and sufficient manpower to operate both squads at all times. Fire Division Services include: Fire Prevention Bureau, Dive Team/Water Rescue, Hazardous Materials/Technical Rescue Team and Fire Investigation Team.

Fire Prevention

The mission of the Fire Prevention Bureau is to reduce fire occurrence and loss of life throughout our community, through regular inspection, code enforcement, and education. It’s our belief that the impact of fire prevention should be both positive and productive to both the residential and business communities. These programs are intended to educate the general public, assist business in meeting legal mandates, and ensure safe economic growth of our community.

Emergency Medical Service (EMS)

The City of Rocky River began paramedic service in 1972 and throught the years, continues to provide quality Emergency Medical Sercice to the Community. Our medic units are staffed with three Paramedics 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Dive Team

The Mission of the Rocky River Dive Team is to provide search, rescue, and recovery for all water related emergencies that require divers. The Dive team, established in 1986, has trained and worked with the U.S. Coast Guard, The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Metroparks Rangers, FBI, local Law Enforcement, other area Fire Departments and County and State dive teams over the years.

Hazmat/Technicial Rescue

The Westshore Hazmat team, formed in 1987, is a regional team comprised of six cities (Bay Village, Farirview Park, Lakewood, North Olmsted, Rocky River, Westlake) working together to respond to hazardous materials emergencies. Additional disciplines taken on by the team include; trench rescue, confined space rescue, high angle rope rescue, structure collapse and to assist at any major multi-agency, multi-hazard, multi-jurisdictional, incidents. In 2004, the team was re-named the Westshore Hazardous Materials & Technical Rescue Team.
