Construction Update for August 24, 2018

James Umerley

CITY OF ROCKY RIVER UPDATE  - CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

First Energy is trimming trees in the City. The First Energy contractors for tree trimming is Asplundh and Townsend.  During tree trimming large vehicles may be blocking the streets in neighborhoods  – please use caution while traveling around these vehicles.  If you have any questions or concerns about tree trimming – please contact City Hall at 440-331-0600 and we will have personnel from Asplundh or Townsend contact you.

THE CITY’S PAVING CONTRACTOR WILL BE WORKING TOMORROW – SATURDAY - ON ROAD REPAIRS ON FORESTVIEW AND AT THE CITY HALL PARKING AREA (NEAR RECREATION DRIVE ADJACENT TO HILLIARD).  THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AS OUR CONTRACTOR ADVANCES OUR ROAD IMPROVEMENTS ON SATURDAY.

Detroit Road Paving

  • The ODOT road repairs on Detroit between the I-90 ramps and east of Northview are completed – for traffic heading to Rocky River High School. However, some catch basins near the I-90 ramps are in the process of being replaced - please expect road repair crews near the I-90 ramps over the next few weeks. Road repair crews will also be working in the curb lanes at the east end of Detroit from Northview to Wooster.
  • Full depth repairs, catch basin work and manhole repairs will take place in one lane of traffic (each direction) at a time. Two-way traffic will be maintained; however, because there will not be a turning lane available – please expect traffic delays.  Work in the zone depends upon the weather.
  • BUSINESSES ARE ACCESSIBLE DURING THE ROAD REPAIRS AND PAVING WORK.
  • Once all road / concrete repairs are complete, then a final layer of asphalt will be installed from the Westlake line to Wooster and including a section of Wooster (just south of the Heinen’s driveway). That final layer is anticipated to be installed by October 31st.
  • The ODOT / Detroit Road paving project includes Wooster Road paving in late spring, 2019 as weather allows. (Wooster Road will be paved next year from Center Ridge to the Heinen’s driveway.)

Hilliard Boulevard Paving

The Hilliard Boulevard road work will continue from Gasser Blvd. to Westmoor and near the I-90 ramps.  This paving is part of the Lakeview / Hampton sewer project.  This work zone’s traffic / safety devices are in place and during the paving two way traffic will be maintained.  Work zones on  Hilliard have been milled from Gasser to Westmoor in the curb lanes and an intermediate layer of asphalt has been installed to protect the sub-structure of the road.  On Monday (August 27th) please expect road repair crews working within those zones / traffic lanes.

Once work is completed in the curb lanes, please watch for lane adjustments to accommodate the road repair as they move through each lane on Hilliard.  Due to constricted lanes within this work zone, please expect traffic delays. This paving is scheduled to be completed in September but it is subject to delays due to weather conflicts.

Lakeview / Hampton Sewer Improvements

Please note that the one-way traffic control devices have been removed from Lakeview between Center Ridge and Hilliard.  One-way traffic northbound only is still in effect on Lakeview between Westway / Hilliard.  One way traffic northbound is still in effect for Hampton.  Traffic is limited to local residents only.

Lakeview: Tree lawn area restoration continues and the tees (sewer connections) have been trimmed to grade.

Hampton: cement installation continues for sidewalks where construction has occurred and for driveway aprons.  Tree lawn restoration will continue.  Intermediate asphalt for Hampton is being scheduled – once the road repairs adjacent to Hilliard are completed. One-way traffic -northbound  only-- remains in effect.

At this time, final asphalt for Lakeview and Hampton is currently planned to coincide with the Hilliard Blvd. paving schedule.

2018 CITY PAVING PROGRAM

The City’s paving contractor will be working on Forestview (tomorrow) Saturday and will also be working on the new parking spaces being installed along the Recreation driveway in front of the Ice Rink adjacent to Hilliard Blvd.

Next week work will begin on High Parkway (concrete / curb repairs)- please watch for notices being delivered this weekend.  Next week – curb repairs may result work in front of and in driveway aprons.  Residents should move their vehicles into the street early in the morning beginning next week until work is completed.

Paving on Homeland will commence after the water line replacement is complete (see below for Homeland water line update…).  Frazier (between Buckingham and Beachcliff) will be scheduled for milling in the near future. Dominion gas line work in the road next week needs to be completed before work is scheduled.

Laurel / Purnell Water Line Replacement

Water service connections are being completed on Purnell.  Installation of concrete into the Laurel and Purnell areas of road where the new water main was installed has been completed this week.  There are a few concrete road repairs to wrap up next week at the Wooster end of the project.  Asphalt can begin being installed late next week – as weather allows.

Restoration of the tree lawn has begun to repair construction areas.  Thank you for watering these repairs areas – it promotes grass growth to overtake weeds.  Keeping your tree lawn tree grass mowed around the areas recently seeded will also limit weeds and benefit grass seed growth.

Riverwood & Homeland – Water Main Replacement

Homeland -  the new service line connections into the new main line are scheduled to begin Wednesday, August 29th.  New service lines will be installed from the main in the street through the tree lawn area.

Riverwood –  the temporary water lines are installed and have been pressure tested – and are awaiting final Cleveland Division of Water approval to be used.

Please continue to drive carefully and thank you for not parking in the roadway during construction.  There will be mats that protect the temporary water lines and valves and other devices that are included in the temporary water line system.

You may request specific updates sent to you by email or phone message by calling Rocky River City Hall at 440-331-0600.  The specific updates regarding the project that you reference will have more detailed information than this update.  This construction update will give you general information.
