The Joint Veterans Council of Lakewood and Rocky River will hold a Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on Monday, May 29 in Rocky River. The Parade will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. at Rocky River High School and continue west on Detroit Road to Lakewood Park Cemetery.
After the parade, a Memorial Day ceremony will take place at Lakewood Park Cemetery to honor our fallen heroes. Our guest Speaker will be Col. James Riley, U.S. Army, Retired. The FOP Lodge #25 Honor Guard, Rocky River High School Marching Band, several local scout troops and community representatives will also participate in the morning's tribute.
We look forward to this year's Memorial Day event and program and encourage all residents to take time to be a part of this important remembrance of our fallen men and women who have defended our freedoms.
On Saturday, May 27 at Lakewood Park Cemetery, beginning at 8:30 a.m., community members are encouraged to join members of the Joint Veterans Council and other volunteers in placing 3,500 American flags on the graves of veterans who have been laid to rest at the cemetery. After this beautiful and deeply symbolic effort is complete, volunteers are invited to enjoy a light lunch at the American Legion Post #451, 19911 Lake Road, at the intersection of Lake and Linda Roads in Rocky River. For more information, you may contact Memorial Day Chairman Richard Healy 216-337-0862.
On Sunday, May 28 at Rocky River City Hall Park, beginning at 7:00 p.m., the Rocky River High School Jazz Band will be performing. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the kick-off of the Summer Concert Series.
