Bob Milne has been called “the one and only” and the “best ragtimist in the world.” His concert tours take him all over the globe where he shares his love of music with audiences of all kinds.

Cupcake Social following Recital

Corey Knick has enjoyed a wide variety of performances as both a solo and collaborative pianist. He often premiers music by new composers and enjoys exploring underplayed repertoire. His music has been heard on Fox 8 TV and WCLV. Corey teaches through the Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory Outreach Program where he is currently finishing a Bachelor of Music degree. He is the 2009 recipient of the Sophie Albrecht Scholarship for Piano and is a Dean’s List student. With a deep interest in collaborative arts, he continues his collaboration with Vicki Hamm to promote the spread of classical music.

 

Vicki Hamm, cellist, is currently working toward a Bachelor of Music in performance and education at Baldwin-Wallace College. She is part of

B-W’s Conservatory Outreach faculty and is co-principal cellist of the College’s Symphony Orchestra. She was awarded a scholarship from the Three Arts Club of Lakewood.

The Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, a non-profit affiliate of Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging, provides information for consumers interested in selecting an appropriate long term care facility for themselves, a friend, or family members by using a searchable, state-of-the-art computer information system.

 

The Ombudsman Program also visits and advocates for residents in residential care, adult care, community/home based care and guardianships in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, and Medina Counties.

 

Program presenter Mike Burns is a retired teacher and school counselor from the Euclid City Schools. For the past five years, he has served as a volunteer Long Term Care Ombudsman for a rehabilitation center in Westlake.

The Supreme Court Said What?

The third branch of our government is often the least understood. Who are these people? How did they get in such a powerful position? We will explore the history of the Court, discuss some of the extraordinary individuals who have served, and evaluate the impact that the Court and several of its decisions have had on the country.

 

The presentation is an overview of a lecture series that Art Hildebrandt will offer in the fall.

Presenter Art Hildebrandt is an attorney who had a 30 year legal career in the Office of the General Counsel, Navy. During his impressive Navy career, he was appointed in 1992 as Associate General Counsel Director, Navy Litigation Office. In 2000, he was appointed Associate General Counsel (Management). During his career, Art received numerous civilian awards. After a career of 35 years of combined civilian and military service, he retired in 2006.

The Butler Institute of American Art us truly a jewel! It houses works of art that rival our own fine Cleveland Museum of Art,. Included in the Institute’s collection are works of John Singer Sargent, Andy Worhol, Mary Cassatt, Edwin Hopper, Winslow Homer, Jackson Pollack and others of note. Reccently acquired is Norman Rockwell’s “Lincoln the Railsplitter.” Winslow Homer’s “Snap the Whip” is a particularly famous work.

 

This fine museum, built in 1919 of white marble, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The recently added south wing houses the popular electronic art, utilizing computers, holography, lasers and digital media. We will be welcomed by docents who will lead us to the most interesting works. Our lunch will be at Winslow’s Café at the museum. The menu is Romano crusted chopped chicken salad (iceberg and romaine lettuce, with chopped bacon, tomatoes, red onions, topped with a sliced Romano crusted chicken breast), garlic bread stick, and tiramisu for dessert. After lunch we’ll have time to visit the Gift Shop. Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Computer lab

The Senior Center’s computer lab has six state of the art computers and a printer. The lab is open Monday-Friday, 9 AM – 4 PM, except when computer classes are in session. Check the calendar for dates. Cost to print a

page is ten cents.

 

Social Service

A licensed social worker is available to senior residents who are in need of services/information. Call 333-6660.

Rocky River Senior Center, in collaboration with the Rocky River Chamber of Commerce, has initiated a project called BridgeWorks.

 

Call Carole Calladine, Director of Social Service, 333-6660, if you are

interested in seeking employment or are an employer who is seeking employees. BridgeWorks has weekly meetings on Mondays at 1:15 PM for

people to attend and learn about prospective jobs and discuss their findings.

 

Minibus Transportation Service

The Senior Center provides transportation for Rocky River residents who are

60 years of age or above who have no other means of transportation. The van service operates Monday-Friday, 9 AM – 4 PM. Rides for medical

appointments have priority and should be scheduled one week in advance. All other appointments can be made two working days in advance. Grocery

shopping is limited to Wednesdays only. A wheelchair lift minibus is available.

 

Deli Lunch in the dining room

The Senior Center serves Deli Lunches, Monday-Friday, 12 Noon – 1 PM, except the third Friday of the month (monthly luncheon and program by

reservation.)

There is no need to make a Deli Lunch reservation ahead of time. An assortment of daily specials, soups, salads, sandwiches and desserts are available at various prices.
