By studying the life and poetry of John Keats, we will get a glimpse into the Romantic Age, 1800-1850. We will examine Keats’ life, his times, his friends, and the love of his life, Fanny Brawne. We will meet Lord Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Mary Godwin Shelley, Leigh Hunt, Joseph Severn and many others.

Come and explore how to heal the hurts we don’t deserve and how to find the peace that comes with forgiveness. Handouts will be provided.

Betty Albano, R.N., EMS Coordinator of Fairview Hospital, offers a two-part series on injury prevention. The series includes safety issues concerning driving, tips to help seniors adjust to changing health needs and requirements needed to live a productive life. The program will discuss the serious problem of falls, how to avoid them, and offer safe techniques for seniors. Handouts will be provided that include a checklist regarding falls and an assessment study that lists information and suggestions for a safer lifestyle.

Enter John McClane (Bruce Willis) who is sent to pick up Matt Farrell and turn him over to the FBI for questioning as a known hacker. The result is a total disruption of all transportation, financial and utilities telecommunication as Farrell and McClane stop the villains.

Newest Treatments for Aging Eye Conditions: Cataracts, Macular Degeneration & Dry/Tearing Eyes

Eye diseases increase as we age, limiting vision and causing concern. It is one of the most common causes of permanent disability in the United States. But with early intervention, the problem can be managed and/or treated. Physicians from the Cleveland Clinic Ophthalmology/Lakeland Eye Center at Lakewood Hospital will speak on three of the most common and troubling conditions: cataracts, macular degeneration, and dry or tearing eyes. A panel discussion will follow to answer all your questions.

Income tax assistance begins February 1

FREE income tax assistance will be available at Rocky River Senior Center for persons age 60 and older through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, beginning February 1.

 

Trained VITA volunteers will prepare tax returns for seniors using forms 1040 EZ, 1040A and basic form 1040. State of Ohio individual tax returns are also prepared. Complicated tax issues involving business expenses and the like are NOT covered. For an appointment, call the Senior Center at

333-6660 between February 1 and April 9.

Computer lab

The Senior Center’s computer lab has six state of the art computers and a printer. The lab is open Monday-Friday, 9 AM – 4 PM, except when computer classes are in session. Check the calendar for dates. Cost to print a

page is ten cents.

Rocky River Senior Center, in collaboration with the Rocky River Chamber of Commerce, has initiated a project called BridgeWorks

 

Call Carole Calladine, Director of Social Service, 333-6660, if you are

interested in seeking employment or are an employer who is seeking employees. BridgeWorks has weekly meetings on Mondays at 1:15 PM for people to attend and learn about prospective jobs and discuss their findings.

 

Minibus Transportation Service

The Senior Center provides transportation for Rocky River residents who are

60 years of age or above who have no other means of transportation. The van service operates Monday-Friday, 9 AM – 4 PM. Rides for medical

appointments have priority and should be scheduled one week in advance. All other appointments can be made two working days in advance. Grocery

shopping is limited to Wednesdays only. A wheelchair lift minibus is available.

 

 

Deli Lunch in the dining room

The Senior Center serves Deli Lunches, Monday-Friday, 12 Noon – 1 PM, except the third Friday of the month (monthly luncheon and program by

 Reservation).

 

There is no need to make a Deli Lunch reservation ahead of

time. An assortment of daily specials, soups, salads, sandwiches and desserts are available at various prices.
