Rocky River Senior Center honors Co-Volunteers of the Year

Rocky River Senior Center honored 147 volunteers who earned over 13,000 hours of service in 2007. The group attended a Volunteer Recognition Luncheon at the Center, followed by a program performed by Rocky River High School Show Choir.

At the event, the Center named two volunteers as the Co-Volunteers of the Year. Grace Green earned over 100 hours of service in 2007 and her niece, Jackie Green, earned over 300 hours. Volunteering is a family tradition. This is the first intergenerational award given by the Center.

Grace has been a volunteer at the Center for 14 years, was the first volunteer cashier at deli lunch for many years, collates “The Quill,” the Center’s monthly newsletter, volunteers in the kitchen, in the Gift Shop and at the annual Craft and Quilt Show.

Jackie Green assists with decorations for special events, leads the monthly book discussion group, and is co-facilitator for the writing group. Jackie also volunteers at the annual Craft and Quilt Show, is a member of the stage crew for Play Readers performances, and assists at tableside for the deli lunches.

Carole Calladine, Director of Social Service, said, “Both Grace and Jackie Green have been volunteers of the month. Grace in July, 1998, and Jackie in May, 2005. It was very special to honor them together as aunt and niece. Together they are representational of all our wonderful volunteers who honor us with their supportive presence at Rocky River Senior Center.”
