Mary Jane Dawe – Senior Center 2009 Volunteer of the Year

Mary Jane Dawe was the recipient of the Rocky River Senior Center 2009 Volunteer of the Year Award at the Center’s Volunteer Luncheon. RRSC Director Carole Calladine presented the award, listing Mary Jane’s dedicated volunteerism. She is an Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information (OSHIIP) Program Certified Counselor. Mary Jane began her services as an OSHIIP volunteer at the Center in 2005 and has continued to volunteer on Tuesdays to help those with Medicare issues, making phone calls on people’s behalf, answering numerous questions on Medicare Part D, and working with people. Each year she must renew her certification as an OSHIIP Counselor.

Mary Jane has served as a member of Rocky River Seniors Council, Inc., and was the Secretary for two years. She serves as a Quilt Hostess for the Craft Show, and on Flu Shot Day, checks the medical insurance cards. She is a Rocky River resident, has four children and is the grandmother of five.

Senior Center Director Carole Calladine praised Mary Jane’s dedicated volunteerism. She said, “Mary Jane Dawe came to our Center as a needed and trained OSHIIP counselor. Many seniors have praised Mary Jane’s help in straightening out medical billings and services. As Mary Jane became more familiar with the Center, she looked around and offered help in other areas. We’re blessed with the generous spirit displayed by Mary Jane.”
