Rocky River 2019 Common Ground Conversation
This year Rocky River Public Library, The City of Rocky River, and The League of Women Voters Greater Cleveland, are inviting you to join a conversation about My Community Environment and share your thoughts on creating strong social bonds in your neighborhood. We’ll meet in Memorial Hall at Rocky River Civic Center on Sunday, June 30th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Light refreshment will be served.
Join a table to discuss the ideas: How do you define Quality of Life, City Ambassador, or Connections.
1. Quality of Life. What tangible actions or intangible ideas cause an increased sense of happiness or contentment in your life?
*What actions do you take to improve the world around you? (Greet neighbors? Pick up litter from the sidewalk? Be a courteous driver.)
*Are there any services you wish were available to you or your neighbors?
*Would you be interested in simple instructions for ideas like: what’s required before you close your street for a block party or how to start an email group for your street? If yes, what kind of topics would you like covered?
2. City Ambassador. What activities, gathering spots, or unique experiences, would you make sure to share with a new friend or neighbor?
*Where do you like to spend your free time? What are you doing there?
*What do you wish there was more of, or less of, in our area? (This can be a specific kind of gathering place or activity.)
3. Connections. Are you looking for a chance to meet new people and give back to your community, at the same time? Bring information on volunteering opportunities or ideas on how to share your skills and talents.
*What connections have you already made? Are you engaged with the schools, with a civic organization, a scout troop, or book group? What would you say to encourage someone to join in?
*We need your suggestions on how to create an effective way for people to discover for everyone who’s interested. Think of it like: I have this skill, talent, time available, interest in OR I need this: skill, talent, time available, interest in, and we’ll see if we can build a site that can help match the “I have” with “I need.”
