Rocky River Fire Department

Located at 21012 Hilliard Boulevard, Rocky River's Fire Division consists of 29 total sworn personnel. This includes a Chief, a Fire Prevention Officer, and three nine-member shifts. Each shift is comprised of a Captain, 2 Lieutenants, and 6 Firefighters. All members of the Fire Division are certified Paramedics. The Fire Department maintains two fully-equipped advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) rescue squads and sufficient manpower to operate both squads at all times.

In 2021, the Fire Division responded to 3323 emergency calls, 826 fire-related calls, and 2497 emergency medical calls.

In 2022, the Fire Division responded to 3582 emergency calls, 861 fire-related calls, and 2721 emergency medical calls.

History

The fire department began as a volunteer department in 1911.

In 1924, the first full time members, a lieutenant and one firefighter were appointed. A year later, the lieutenant was appointed chief of the department and two additional firefighters were added. That same year, 1925, the fire department purchased an American La France type 75 triple combination with junior pump. This pumper was rebuilt by former Eaton Township Fire Chief Mel Ternes and is currently housed at the Rocky River fire station.

Fire Prevention Bureau Mission

The mission of the Fire Prevention Bureau is to reduce fire occurrence and loss of life throughout our community, through regular inspection, code enforcement, and education.

It’s our belief that the impact of fire prevention should be both positive and productive to both the residential and business communities. These programs are intended to educate the general public, assist business in meeting legal mandates, and ensure safe economic growth of our community.

Rocky River Fire Department Lock Box Program

Residential lock boxes allow quick and efficient entry into your residence using a secure-keyed lock box.

Lock boxes are keyed specifically for the Rocky River Fire Department master key. We place the key to your residence in the lock box, only to be used in a medical or fire-related emergency. In the event of a fall, altered mental status, or some other type of emergency, RRFD crews will be able to quickly gain access to your home. Because your key is accessible, this is done without forcible entry. Lock boxes are either wall-mount or over-the-door style, allowing all residence types (apartments, condos, and homes) to participate in this program. Residents can purchase the lock box at ACE Hardware, 20200 Detroit Road in Rocky River. ACE Hardware has partnered with RRFD and sells these lock boxes at cost.
