Rocky River Recreation Policies & Procedures

Civic Center Policies

  • The Rocky River Civic Center is a controlled access facility. Only authorized members, with proper identification, will be permitted through controlled entrances. Participants may be denied access if identification is not presented. All entrance and exit must be through the main lobby unless an emergency is present.

    Non-Resident guests must be accompanied by a resident or member. Adults may sponsor up to four guests. Students may sponsor up to two guests.

    All youth 9 and under must be accompanied by an adult to enter the facility.

    Proper attire is required.

    All tours must be accompanied by Rocky River Recreation staff.

    No animals are permitted in the facility except for the purpose of assisting or aiding persons with disabilities.

    Responsibility for general supervision of the facility rests with Rocky River Recreation staff.

    Harassment or disregard of requests by the department staff may result in immediate ejection from the facility and may result in additional disciplinary action.

    Fighting and/or profanity is prohibited.

    Firearms are prohibited.

    The Civic Center is a substance free facility. Tobacco, alcohol, and illegal drugs are not permitted in or on the grounds of the Civic Center.

    Personal belongings, gym bags, backpacks, etc. are not permitted in hallways, lobbies or activity areas. Lockers are available for storage of all items. The City of Rocky River is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items.

    Photography prohibited without prior approval from Rocky River Recreation staff.

    Limit cell phone conversations to common areas.

    Spitting in the drinking fountains, common areas, activity areas such as the track and courts, etc. is prohibited.

    Rocky River Recreation staff have final authority on policies and procedures.

  • Must be 14 and older to use the Fitness Center.

    Ages 12-13 may use equipment after going through the Youth Equipment Orientation. Must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older.

    Please observe a 30-minute time limit on cardiovascular equipment.

    Proper workout attire required.

    Please clean off equipment before and after use.

    Fighting and/or profanity is prohibited.

    Limit cell phone conversations to common areas.

    Slamming or dropping of weights is prohibited.

    Properly re-rack equipment when finished.

    Beverages are permitted in a spill-proof, unbreakable container.

    Use of outside personal trainers in prohibited.

  • Beverages are permitted in a spill-proof, unbreakable container.

    Non-marking athletic shoes only.
    Proper workout attire required.

    No dunking or rim hanging.

    Fighting and/or profanity is prohibited.

    Limit cell phone conversations to common areas.

    Full court games may be re-organized or cancelled by supervisor when gym is crowded.

    Students must be 10 years old to attend open gym without a parent.

    Adult open gym is for those 18 and older who are out of high school.

    Inappropriate or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Members are responsible for the behavior of their guests. Disruptive patrons will be asked to leave. Disruptive youth will be asked to leave and parents will be called. Repeated problems may result in suspension of membership.

    Spitting in the drinking fountains, common areas or activity areas is prohibited.

    Rocky River Recreation staff have final authority on policies and procedures.

  • Do not enter the pool without certified lifeguard on duty.

    Children 9 years of age and younger will not be permitted entry into either the indoor or outdoor pools without being accompanied by a responsible person 15 years of age or older.

    Children 6 years of age and younger must be accompanied at all times and within an arms- length distance by a responsible person age 15 years or older.

    Swim diapers are required for all diaper-aged children. Diaper changing on the deck is prohibited.

    Weak or non-swimmers are to remain in shallow, less than shoulder height water. This determination will be made at the discretion of Pool Supervisor or the zone Lifeguard.

    Coast Guard approved life jackets can be worn (no plastic inflatable arm sleeves) a parent or responsible person 15 years of age and over must accompany that child, within arm’s reach, at all times. Ratio is one adult per child. No exceptions.

    Intentional hyperventilation or extended breath holding activities are dangerous and prohibited.

    Diving is only permitted from the diving board or the side wall where the diving board is located. (Indoor pool only.)

    Proper swim attire is required (bathing trunks for boys/men) and (swim suits/burkinis) for girls/women). No cotton clothing.

    Group and private swim lessons may only be conducted by authorized recreation personnel.

    When requested, lap swimmers will share lanes or circle swim in a counter clockwise direction.

    The use of cameras or cell phones for the purposes of taking pictures requires the authorization of the supervisor on duty.

    Photography is prohibited without prior approval from Rocky River Recreation staff.

    No food on the pool deck.

    Beverages permitted in a spill-proof, unbreakable container.

    Persons with infectious diseases, open sores, or diarrhea within the past two weeks are not permitted in any part of the pool, spa or sprayground.

    DIVING BOARD

    Only one person permitted on the board at a time.

    Only one bounce is permitted on the board.

    No running on the diving board

    Jump or dive straight forward. No angular or side take-offs.

    No acrobatic diving (handstands, cartwheels flips, sitting, etc.).

    Wait for instruction from the Lifeguard to take turn.

    Parents may not wait in the water for their child to jump in order to provide assistance.

    No hanging on the diving board.

    Masks, goggles or glasses may not be worn when using the diving board.

    LAZY RIVER

    No diving into lazy river.

    No stacking, throwing or removing tubes from the lazy river.

    No forming of chains.

    Must be seated or laying on tube.

    VORTEX

    Small children and non-swimmers requiring floatation devices are not permitted in the vortex.

    The maximum number of patrons in the vortex at one time is six.

    WATER SLIDE

    Must slide down feet first.

    No running, standing, kneeling, rotating, tumbling or stopping in the flume.

    Only one person on the slide at a time.

    Keep hands and feet inside the flume at all times.

    Exit splash down area immediately.

    Do not cross in front of the other slide (exit nearest ladder).

    Patrons who are pregnant or those suffering from neck, back or a medical condition of a more serious nature are prohibited from using the slide.

    Life jackets, glasses, goggles, snorkels, etc., may not be worn on the slide.

    Patrons must be 48” tall without shoes. Non-swimmers or those requiring a life jacket are prohibited.

    TREASURE CHEST SLIDE

    No sliding down head first.

    No running, standing, kneeling, rotating, tumbling or stopping in the flume.

    Inside no more than one rider at a time.

    Keep hands and feet inside the flume at all times.

    Exit splash down area immediately.

    SPA

    Do not enter the spa without certified lifeguard on duty.

    Participants must be 15 years of age or older.

    Children (under the age of 15) are prohibited from sitting on or near the spa.

    It is suggested that patrons who are pregnant, elderly or those suffering from a heart condition, diabetes or high/low blood pressure obtain permission from their doctor prior to using the spa.

    Submersion of face/mouth is prohibited for health and safety purposes.

    Observe reasonable time limits (each cycle is 10 minutes).

    No open skin sores.

  • Children between the ages of 10 and 13 must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older.

    Outer most lane is to be used for passing.

    Walking side by side is prohibited during peak hours.

    Strollers are prohibited on the track.

    No stopping or standing on the track to watch activities in the gym.

    No hanging or leaning on the railing.

    Non-marking athletic shoes are required.

    Limit cell phone conversations to common areas.

    Spitting in the drinking fountains, common areas or activity areas is prohibited.

  • Lockers are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

    Members and guests are encouraged to bring a lock to secure their belongings. Locks must be removed by the end of the day.

    The City of Rocky River is not responsible for anything lost or stolen.

    Cell phones are prohibited in the locker rooms.

    No running or horseplay permitted in the locker rooms.

    No food or drinks in the locker rooms.

    Family Locker Rooms are provided for parents with opposite gender children.

  • Participants are required to disinfect and place all fitness equipment in its appropriate storage location after each class.

    Beverages are permitted in a spill-proof, unbreakable container.

    Participants are prohibited from removing equipment from the Fitness Studios and using it in other areas of the fitness floor.

    Conducting unapproved group fitness classes is prohibited.

    The sound system and equipment is available for use only during scheduled group fitness classes by properly trained fitness instructors.

    Proper workout attire is required.

    Non-marking athletic shoes are encouraged to be carried to class and put on in the hallway outside of the Fitness Studios.

  • Babysitting services available for ages 6 months to 9 years for a fee.

    Parents must remain in the facility at all times.

    Reservations may be required.

    Please keep children who are ill at home.

    Kids Cove staff is not responsible for diaper changes.

    A two hour time limit will be enforced.

    Disruptive children may be asked to leave and not welcomed back.

  • Play at your own risk. Parents and/or guardians are responsible for watching their children.

    Children may not play unattended.

    The large playground structure is designed for ages 5-12.

    The small playground structure is designed for ages 2-5.

    No food or beverages in the playground.

    Shoes or socks must be worn while playing. No bare feet.

    Children must remain in playground area, please do not permit children to run through the hallway.

  • Limit cell phone conversations to common areas.

    For photographic use upon written authorization obtained by Recreation Department Staff which authorization designates the specific purpose, subject and area for photography.

    Any prohibited use of such mobile devices as stated above may result in corrective action up to and including permanent dismissal from all recreational facilities and programs, and may also result in a referral for further investigation by the proper law enforcement agency.

Hamilton Ice Arena Policies

  • Hamilton Ice Arena is a controlled access facility. Only authorized participants/guests or paying spectators will be permitted through controlled entrances. Participants may be denied access.

    Hamilton Ice Arena is a substance free facility. Tobacco, alcohol, vaping, and illegal drugs are not permitted in or on the grounds of Hamilton Ice Arena.


    Participants are encouraged to utilize a day-use locker or locker room during programming or events. Cubbies are available for storage of all items. The City of Rocky River is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items.


    Photography prohibited without prior approval from Rocky River Recreation Staff.


    Limit cell phone conversations to common areas.


    Spitting in the drinking fountains, common areas or activity areas is prohibited.


    Off-ice hockey is prohibited.


    Rocky River Recreation Staff have final authority on policies and procedures.

Outdoor Municipal Pool Policies

  • Do not enter the pool without certified lifeguard on duty.

    Children 9 years of age and younger will not be permitted entry into either the indoor or outdoor pools without being accompanied by a responsible person 15 years of age or older.

    Only one person on the slide at a time.

    Keep hands and feet inside the flume at all times.

    Life jackets, glasses, goggles, snorkels, etc., may not be worn on the slide.

  • No sliding down head first.

    No running, standing, kneeling, rotating, tumbling or stopping in the flume.

    No more than three riders allowed at a time.

    Keep hands and feet inside the flume at all times.

    Exit splash down area immediately.

  • Only one person crosses at a time.

    No jumping from one pad to the next (they are slippery).

    No diving.

    When a patron falls off, they must exit and go back to the end of the line.

City Park Policies

  • Parks are open from dawn to dusk, daily.

    Spaces are first come- first serve unless otherwise noted/permit issued.

    Alcohol is prohibited in all city parks.

    Smoking or tobacco use is not permitted on city grounds.

    Dogs must be kept on a 6’ leash while in city parks.

    Tennis/Pickleball Courts are to be used on a first come- first serve basis. Please allow participants to ‘play-in’ as matches end.

    Recreation programming takes priority over informal use of spaces.

    Not for profit or exchange of funds programming may not be conducted without approval for the Recreation Department. Authorization is required for group programming.

    Rocky River Park & Linden Park Restrooms operate year round. Others will close no later than November 1st of each year.
